Charles Terrence Harper and Laurel Knox Harper
Greetings! We are Charles Terrence Harper and Laurel Knox Harper. We homeschool our two lovely girls, Lana and Sydney. Although we are originally from Chicago, we currently live in Harrisburg, PA. Describing what we do and what we are involved in is a little more complicated. We are currently completing our dissertations in Instructional Technology to earn our doctoral degrees in Education from Duquesne University. We are doing this on the heels of our retirement after twelve years from the Milton Hershey School in Hershey, PA where we were boarding school houseparents to thirteen at-risk teens (high school aged boys). We also teach college courses to adult learners online at various schools throughout the United States, while also marketing on the internet full time. Part of the marketing part of my (Charles') profession is consulting with Small and Home Based Businesses in the Hershey-Harrisburg, PA area (www.gainmindshare.com). During the twelve years that I (Charles) spent at Milton Hershey School, I attended seminary (1.5 years); completed the necessary accounting courses to sit for the CPA exam and completed my MBA at Syracuse University. I (Laurel) obtained my MBA from Eastern University. Both business and education was a part of our 'free time' for all of our years at the boarding school. Moreover, I (Charles) started, managed and sold a vending machine business for a brief three year span attempting to put into practice those things that I was learning. Before coming out to Milton Hershey, I (Charles) spent five years in Chicago working as a commercial banker for a large bank. Prior to this, I was a financial analyst in the Republic of Liberia working with shipping registry data as well as a Marketing Associate at British Petroleum. I (Laurel) spent several years in consulting, most notably with Arthur Andersen. Oddly enough, even though we'd been born and lived the first 17 years of our lives in Chicago, we met at the University of Pennsylvania, where we attended undergraduate school.
